Teen Driving Study at the University of Iowa

The University of Iowa is sponsoring a Teen Driving Study.  This project is being conducted at The National Advanced Driving Simulator on the Oakdale Campus at the University of Iowa, in collaboration with the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. We are interested in whether specialized training programs can help teens become safer drivers. Ely Community Blood Drive in Honor of Aaron Sturtz

The University of Iowa DeGowin Blood Center is hosting a Blood Drive in support of Aaron Sturtz. Aaron was a 2006 Prairie graduate who was involved in a car accident and used 20+ units of blood during his initial surgery in March.  The blood drive is Tuesday, June 5 from

Somewhere Only We Know Documentary

Check out the world premiere of Somewhere Only We Know documentary produced by Ambivalence Studios and Iowa BIG. The film follows the Horak family – specifically Janice and Richard – and tells the narrative of their life and legacy. The documentary will premiere May 18, 2018 at the Whipple Auditorium at the Cedar Rapids Public Library.  Click on on the flyer below for details and times.

FREE Summer Reading Support at Ely Public Library

The Ely Public Library will be providing FREE Summer Reading Support for youth who have completed  grades K-6.  Reading Support runs from 1-2 pm MondayFriday, starting June 11 and finishing August 3.  Each one hour session is provided by a volunteer and may include: one on one reading, group reading/read aloud, fun literacy games, writing practice and more!

The Ely Public Library is looking for volunteers to help provide this reading support!  New volunteers will be provided with an informal training session.  Help our area youth achieve their reading goals!  Click on the flyers below for more information.
